My latest track, Soms. This piece is inspired by Yann Tiersen, Ludovico Einaudi and general soundtrack music. It was mainly written after lots of improvised playing on Ableton. I feel amazed sometimes what I come out with messing around. When I feel sad or alone, I tend to feel like I can have a conversation with music. I feel like the music communicates my feelings back to me, as if we're both conversing about whatever is upsetting me and I find it comforting in that moment. I guess that's how I lose hours to Ableton. This track is...

Hi all. I recorded this improvised piano piece on the morning of the EU vote result, I hadn't gotten around to sharing it on my blog yet.I, like many millions of people was deeply upset by the result. I spent a lot of the morning crying in shock. Not just for what I will most likely in terms of identity, freedom of movement etc but also for the lack of protection for those who need it. I feel saddened that so many Vote Leave campaigns were driven by fear and many (not all) voted leave out of fear...

Nice to finally be settled and get back to work on music. I appreciate not everyone has Instagram so I am sharing this clip here of my progress on a new piece I am working on. I see to have about 10 unfinished pieces at the moment as my mood keeps changing, so I hope to have a lot of new content uploaded in the...

For anyone who follows my soundcloud, you may hear some video game influences in my work, especially with earlier pieces such as Frontier or Wrex, which was inspired by Mass Effect. I just want to share some of my current favourite pieces from video games which I have been listening to and feel inspired by. The Last Of Us - Main Menu Theme. I love how bleak and gritty this piece of music sounds, I actually by chance figured out part of the melody whilst playing around on my new guitar. Whilst I can't play the game yet,...

Hello all! Terribly sorry a lack of recent music releases and updates, I've been moving flats the past two months whilst working full time hours so have found most of my time being swallowed up. I released a track on Soundcloud a few months ago titled 'Ontsnappen / Vinden' (Escape / Find). I took influence from Christian Loffler and Tim Hecker, trying to recreate a haunting atmosphere whilst also including my electric guitar in the hope of creating a more post-rock sound. The chords used in this piece are actually the same as in my previous post 'Working...

I've been a bit unwell recently and feeling exhausted from work so haven't been able to make huge progress on any music making in the past week. Fortunately I can still do a lot of listening when I feel under the weather, according to my LastFM I've done a lot of listening over the last 7 days, considering I've been at work/out/sleeping. For myself personally, I find music listening not just therapeutic and comforting but also productive, I get inspired and listen to different effects and methods of production which I think can help in my own development...

One of my discoveries of 2015 was Christian Löffler who has become one of my favourite electronic musicians. He creates wonderful layering of dark melodies and captures my love of dark techno/house music. I quite often find myself listening to his music on repeat late at night, like right now, at 3:30am... ha! In my last post I shared a sad piano piece I'd been working on. I am still pursuing that project along with a few others but recently I've been going out with my music loving friends to various techno/dance gigs and I've been feeling inspired to...

Hello! I'm realising it's going to be hard to title each of these posts to sound unique if I post regular content on my progress, oh well. I've been trying to teach myself about chords recently, in particular sus chrods (suspended chords). I've realised how much of an impact these chords can have on adding a sad mood to a melody. I initially set out to attempt my first piece of music using vocals however, I'm still undecided as I'm worried I could ruin the melody I have started to make. Here's a quick recording of my progress...

Hi This is my first post on my swanky music blog. I started to learn Ableton alongside playing my midi keyboard, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and Ableton Push in 2015. I've been uploading music to Soundcloud for around a year now and thought it would be beneficial to have somewhere to store my thoughts, ideas, inspiration and progress. It could be a cool way for you to discover new music, or see new projects I'm working on. Equally if ever I need to show my process for a university interview or potential collaboration this could help with keeping...
